Roscoe Mitchell is a woodwind virtuoso and founding member of both the Art Ensemble of Chicago and the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM.) He has been honored with numerous awards from multiple organizations including Down Beat, the NEA, and the NAACP and was most recently the recipient of the 2018 ASCAP Founders Award. From his landmark 1966 album “Sound” to his magisterial 2017 double album “Bells for the South Side,” his music has stretched the boundaries of conceivable experience for over 50 years.

Evan Parker is a member of the first generation of European improvisers and a pioneer of extended saxophone techniques. He has collaborated with Scott Walker, Robert Wyatt, Han Bennink, Anthony Braxton, Irene Schweizer, Peter Kowald, and many more.

Bobby Bradford has spread his unique take on the trumpet across Los Angeles for more than six decades. He played with Ornette Coleman and Eric Dolphy, and has collaborated extensively with John Carter, Nels Cline, and his former student David Murray.

Kjell Nordeson is a Swedish percussionist currently researching improvisation in relation to notions of cultural and personal identity as a PhD candidate at UCSD. He has a long-term collaborations with Mats Gustafsson and has performed with Barry Guy, Mark Dresser and Stefano Scodanibbio; he also participated in Derek Bailey’s Company Week in 1990.

Sten Sandell is a Swedish pianist and sound poet who has been active in international free improvisation since the 1980s. Collaborators include Chris Cutler, Sven-Åke Johansson and Sofia Jernberg. He is also the author of numerous texts, including “The Language Inside the Organ Behind the Piano” and “On the Inside of Silence.”
