These four sets will minx and mankle the listening wombs. David Watson is an advocate for intelligent listening, so he plays bagpipes. Originally from New Zealand, he settled in New York in the 1980s and into the scene around the Knitting Factory and the A-mica Bunker music series. He cut his teeth in John Zorn’s Cobra, and in groups with Ikue Mori, Christian Marclay, Zeena Parkins, and Fred Lonberg-Holm. If you’ve never heard experimental bagpipes, this is your chance to double-down.

John Krausbauer is a long-time purveyor of the ur-drone and trance-psychedelia; his work involves audio transmissions for TOTAL/immersive sensory experience.

With Event Horizon, Peter Evans and Sam Pluta have created a timbral vortex for adsorbing orbs. Bridging Evans’ efforts to explore uncharted sonic worlds for a traditional acoustic instrument (his trumpet) with Pluta’s customized and highly flexible software, their instruments are at some points fused into a unified sonic entity indistinguishable as two voices, while at others engaged in violent counterpoint. Furious success in must.

Liam Mooney’s “Drum Solo” is an exploration of drums as a drone instrument. The instrument itself exists just on the edge of being uncontrollable (which is how he likes his instruments). The performance is structured loosely enough to allow for following and incorporating surprises. The general trend is that he wants to make things slower and slower with every successive performance, to make the changes less abrupt, and to grant more time for just pausing in a pleasant spot.

Jessika Kenney is a vocalist known for her haunting timbral sense, as well as her profound interpretation of vocal traditions.

Eyvind Kang returns to the Unwrinkled Ear series with his longtime duo to refresh a root of blossoms his viola furled. Past collabs include Sun City Girls, SUNN O))), Blonde Redhead and Bill Frisell. Let the cats up.
